I love trains. Well the sound of trains anyway.

Last summer while traveling across the country, I learned of an old Steam Train still operating in the middle of nowhere in Nevada (ok maybe Ely Nevada isn't the middle of nowhere to the people who live there, but yeah, it really is).

I made contact, arranged to ride up in the engine, and was allowed to place a few mics underneath the train.

To be fair, this is NOT a full huge workup of a steam train. It IS however a pretty decent collection of steam train sounds, horns, chugs, brake squeals, carriage rattles, etc. There are some ambiences from around the train yard too. One thing you will NOT find here, are a lot of 'bys'. Sadly the state of railway tracks in the US means the train can never go that fast either. But this library is still a fun throwback in time.

I'm also going to include a couple other very long nice diesel freight train passbys that I recorded last summer as a bonus!
